In their 3rd video, Jack and ljin discuss the church’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic. There has been a spectrum of responses by individual churches and questions abound. Is the church essential? Is meeting in person necessary? Do elders and pastors have the authority to close their churches? What about Romans 13? Do we obey elected officials or is the law and the Constitution the highest authority?

This is very encouraging to see a conversation about this. Whether or not one agrees with your conclusions, the debate aught to be a lively engagement. What is more concerning is the fact that so few even think it’s worth a conversation. Debate dissolved into a rigid orthodoxy (derived from what?)
Yes, a free society & especially Christians ought to talk more about these things. JZ

The western church has modeled herself after a business model for a long time. Could this also be coming from that? If we have treated ourselves like a business, should be we surprised when the State does too?
Also; could the wholesale adoption of Zoom-‘esque’ technologies simply be a symptom of that business model?
Thank you, and I hope you continue these “chats”, and possibly explore how we’ve allowed our worship and gatherings to be mediated by somethings foreign, whether they be the State, technologies.
Good points and yes, we have treated our church in the west like businesses! -jp

Lastly, if debate about what is proper (close church, restrict capacities, masks, vaccines) immediately dissolves into an automatic answer, what is actually being obeyed? What is threatened by a question like that? What sanctity is being violated? Is there an idolatry that’s being threatened? I think the “good” for the Church that comes out of Covid will be a pruning.
Covid and other factors today will prune I agree! -jp
